𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.
What is it?
Who does one talk to in a project?
What challenges might they face?

At our last “This Thing Every Other Friday” (TTEOF) session, we had a lot of fun creating personas within a Consulting led #Salesforce project – both from the Client side and the Partner side as well.

Anita Smith and Jarod McCarty introduced:
𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗮𝗻 (client-side)
– 30 yo, white male, London born, but living in Dallas
– has a cool accent 😍
– easy to communicate but a little pushy
– wants priority for his requests
– highly focused on generating and closing deals

Maggie Barnes and Sheyvana Valand, introduced:
𝗟𝗲𝗲 𝗜𝗧 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 (client-side)
– white middle aged
– wants to know what’s happening (require lots of status updates)
– and keen to understand all details of implementation

In many organisations, the question of who owns the system and who owns the data does not have a clear answer. This frequently results in bunfights between operational division and the IT department.

Challenges in communication and project implementation can come from internal politics as well as personality clashes.

This became clear when we learned about 𝗦𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 on the Partner side – a persona developed by Talia Johnson and Tracy Greene. Siew Ping is
– diva, thinks she’s a rock star
– socially awkward Cambridge grad
– drinks tea, lives in London and watches crime shows
– very literal and challenging to work with
– needs very exact requirements
– is perceived to not have initiative as she stops when she has a blocker.

We discussed the type of challenges that you might face if you had to work with someone like this.

Kadir Suleymanoglu and Bryan Bemis worked on creating the persona of 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗮, 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗤𝗔
– She’s personable and a perfectionist
– Straight shooter and will tell you when things aren’t right
– Used to be a developer, so she is able to come up with various negative scenarios for testing.

We surmised that Raisa and Siew Ping may find it difficult to get along.

Discussing how almost-real-life personalities have to work together situations is a more effective way of learning and embedding key concepts so we’ll continue this exercise and develop characters within the context of a consultancy-led project delivery in the next few TTEOFs.

When you’re able to access your creativity to imagine, to create stories and to step into the scenarios…
When things feel real and tangible…
… that’s when real understanding is imprinted into your psyche.
