This project is red all over!”

“OMG OMG Disaster! This project is red all over!”

What happens if you keep raising red flags in a project?
Either it’s a burning heap of burning thing 🔥, or you enjoy drama.

The RAG (Red, Amber and Green) light on the status report should be used properly.

We were driving (in the rain) to the beach today, and I saw this. 🤨
I thought that 17 red lights was overkill especially on a quiet-ish road.

What did the road planner hope to achieve?
Was there too much budget that needed to be spent?
Are the local drivers in need of so many alerts?
Is this a likely accident spot?

Regardless.
When you are not judicious in utilising alerts, they will eventually be ignored.

How many of us in Admin positions have email alerts sent when a trigger is set?
Most of us re-route those emails into a sub-folder called “to be ignored” 🤭

We get de-sensitised when exposed to repeated stimuli.
This is true of so many things.
E.g. “exciting” holidays taken too often may become boring and dull.

Sometimes this can be used for good.
Repeated airing of traumatic events can sometimes help remove its sting and its potency.

So, one of these days I will have to try out this hypothesis.
Will stuffing my face with donuts 🍩 eventually make me tire of it?

Perhaps.
That’s why I’m not going to test it though! 😁
