“The goal isn’t to go faster. It’s to find a pace you can keep.” 🏃
We are here at the #LongHaulLeader summit in Cambridge and Chris Ducker was telling us about a mistake that taught him a crucial lesson.
I mean, if something works why not provide more offerings and services to maximise profits?
Well, he did just that and… revenue spiked for three weeks. 👍🏻
And then everything dried up – including their core service. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
Why? It was because they were out of rhythm.
And worse, their clients were out of rhythm too.
One minute: email about X.
Next minute: email about something else… leading to confusion everywhere.
And so he killed everything overnight and went back to ONE service, which was exactly the right move to make for his business.
So this is what I learnt:
Energy is our most valuable commodity.
Not time.
Energy. 🔥
If we don’t have energy to serve our clients properly, how can we genuinely scale?
Here’s how to protect your energy:
🍩 Routine – Build anchor points and recovery time. Creative deep work time. Stay in rhythm. Find your ‘Zone of Genius’.
🍩 Boundaries – Protect your energy like your life depends on it. (His no-work-Friday rule has been nearly a decade strong.)
🍩 Balance – You can’t operate at the right level if you’re burnt out. Neither can your business.
I also love the idea of ‘theme-ing’ my days.
For example:
Monday = content creation only. No meetings. No calls. Nothing else.
Tuesday = something else.
Wednesday = sales calls.
Etc etc etc.
Time blocking isn’t new.
But the shift is in defending that time like your life depends on it. 💡
My biggest takeaway from this session:
🌟The people who are most successful aren’t the ones who go fast. They’re the ones who show up consistently.🌟
What’s one habit you could practice weekly that would get you to your true north with as little friction as possible?
