Data + Meaning = Information 🍞

Information + Context = Knowledge 🍰

Applied Knowledge = Wisdom 🍩

Controversial POV: AI can only help new consultants get to the #cheesecake Knowledge level.

You’re going to have to do a lot more to get to the top #donut Wisdom level!!

Last week I was featured on a LinkedIn Live called “Salesforce Success with Pei Mun Lim: Salesforce Discovery 101” with Chelyn Briand and Joseph K. where I answered some really interesting questions about discovery and consulting, and other things I’ve posted about on LinkedIn! 😬

These dynamic duo really did their research and asked some deep searching questions about some of my recent posts which generated a lot of engagement and interest, such as the WIDE vs DEEP debate, and the dead time between discovery and implementation. 😁

What was really interesting was the final question about AI and how it might impact what we do as consultants. I have thought about this question very deeply since ChatGPT made its entrance and have also experimented with claude.ai in interesting ways.

I have been quite impressed with some of the outputs from LLMs, though it didn’t perform the same on every task.

Here’s what I believe (and I am totally open to an opposing point of view!):

AI can help us gain knowledge, but it robs us of the valuable lessons mistakes teaches us about why the wrong thing doesn’t work.

It’ll give us the right answer to do the right thing, but unless we ask – we won’t know why it’s right.

Also it won’t be as effective as real experience in embedding that learning into our psyche.

What that means is that if you’re just starting out in a new field – yes, you should absolutely use AI to level yourself up.

It’s great for explaining and breaking concepts down so that it’s easily understood.

However, if you want to truly master a craft, then you have to rely on more than just getting your answers from ChatGPT.

You’re going to have to stick your neck out and be prepared to be wrong. ⚔

You’re likely to fail, but failure is the best teacher.

What do you think?
