Do you do sprint retros

Do you do sprint retros outside of projects?

ÜberHub and I did that when he flew out to Prague to spend a short weekend with me after the CzechDreamin .

The last time we did that (the sprint retro) was 10 years ago, which was the last time we were away alone without the sprog ninjas. 😁

That’s really too long IMO.

Our marriage and partnership might have imploded if
– we didn’t constantly communicate (“You didn’t tell me they had a party! I signed them up to do the County relay race!” 🙄😁)
– we didn’t have common values (“so we agree they can only have their smartphones on weekends”)
– we didn’t negotiate (“Fish and chips from cornet shop tonight because I’ve got coaching call with US client… But its double vege portions for all tomorrow OK? 🐟🍟”)

Above all, I am grateful that I’ve chosen the right partner for life.

Despite the noisy messy busy lives with 3 ninjas, in-school and outside activities, we’ve managed to run it relatively well.

Regardless, it was really good to pause our lives for a moment, to
– see how we’ve done so far
– see what we could have done better
– marvel at the journey and what we’ve learned.

And then we were able to look ahead and see
– what’s coming in the product backlog (upcoming exams, trips, athletic meets)
– what big goals we could get excited about
– if any roadblocks might come our way (health, family, work)
– if we might need contingency planning

It was really good.

Not only did I have a really good time at CzechDreamin learning new stuff and meeting new people, I also got to reconnect deeply with my partner in crime. ❤️

Do you apply any Scrum methodology principles to your life outside of project delivery?

I’d love to hear your stories!
