“How can this be allowed to happen?!” 😡
The customer was livid.
It was an incredibly sticky situation, and it wasn’t our fault but they didn’t care.
My delivery director was an image of calm though.
Like a masterful yoda, with just a few words he managed to slice through the frantic panic and all the situation. ❤️
And then he turned to our team and we were able to put together a plan of action to deal with the crisis. 👌🏻
I marveled at his super-powerness, and I wanted to be like him.
“How do you always know what to do?”
I wanted to know what the secret was.
“Well,” he said. “Good judgement comes from experience. But that is a result from making lots of mistakes and learning from them. And mistakes come from bad judgement.”
“So you can’t get good without falling flat on your face a few times.”
I was disappointed. 😕
What? You mean there’s no shortcut? 😔
But over the years I’ve found this out to be true.
The young and inexperienced will want shortcuts and AI now seem to provide that holy grail answer for them.
However, there’s really no substitute for the hard emotional labour of learning through mistakes of using critical thinking to develop good judgement. 💪🏻
Its the fear of failure and of being wrong that is stopping the younger generation from making the mistakes that will make them an outstanding leader.
You can’t make a good pancake unless you’ve made plenty of bad ones. 🥞
Just ask my kids! 😆
So go forth and make those mistakes.
Fall down, get up, get going.
That’s how you
