I am old school. πŸ“šπŸŽ
I like to listen before I think.
I like to think before I draw.
I like to draw on paper before I put it on a digital format.

And I like to try and make my diagrams fit a landscape A4 page (using multiple pages and connectors if necessary).

My brain finds it hard to cope with an infinity canvas that scrolls on to the event horizon. 🀯

And to be honest, my audience also usually find it difficult to scroll through an endless page to follow a particular path, which is why I try to make information succinct, clear and easily digestible.

Just like anything in #Salesforce, there are many ways to achieve an objective, so when we talk about #ProcessMapping – there is a plethora of tools out there you can use.

I come from a world where we did things the old school way, with brown paper on the wall, blue-tac, marker pens and lots and lots of post-its. ✏

Nowadays though, when we are all online, I tend to listen carefully to understand before committing things to paper and then translating them to an online document.

Some people feel slightly befuddled at my process, but it works for me.

My goal is to make sure that:
🍩 I am able to think deeply about the problem, metaphorically turning it this way and that way so that I can view it from all angles
🍩 I can spot any gaps in the process by mentally zooming out for the big picture and then zooming in for the double-click view*
🍩 my final output makes sense
🍩 my audience can digest and understand what I am trying to convey easily, and provide feedback easily so that I can make it better and more complete.

Everyone’s process is different.

Some, like Alexander Lapa (who just got his security review approved for his app – congratulations!) can assimilate what his audience is saying, process it mentally and synthesize that information on the spot and drawing it all – LIVE!

Some, like Vanessa Grant, is able to craft user stories directly from listening to her stakeholders (What kind of sorcery is this?! 😲)

Others, who are old-school’ers like me, do it the old-fashioned way.
Slow and steady.
With a pencil and paper.

But we all care deeply about doing right by our clients and users.
And so, we lean into our strengths.

There is no “My way is better than your way.” πŸ™…πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
There is only “My way works for me. Find out what works for you and do more of that.”

What things do you do your way that isn’t how others do?

ÜberHub eats rice with a fork. 🍴
He says, “It works.”
OMG weirdo!
Luckily I married him for his weirdo-ness and did the world a favour by taking him off the market. 😁

What’s that thing you do that only you do?
