I still make mistakes.
Shock! Horror! 😱
Yeah, of course I still make mistakes. 😁
I coach my team and my students to #NeverAssume, by asking gentle tactful questions to peel away layers of assumptions and bias, in order to get to the heart of the matter.
When we assume and we are WRONG, bad things could happen.
That’s how projects go sideways. 💣
That’s how we end up building the wrong thing.
That’s how contracts are pulled out and lawyers get involved. ⚔️
But that’s exactly what I did.
The other day, I posted a screenshot of our TTC steering committee meeting, reflecting on how glad I was feeling to be working with some amazing people.
That screenshot had a snippet of our chat conversation, which I felt was cute and innocent.
Lo and behold… I was wrong. 😬
Vicki Moritz-Henry gently corrected me, and I quickly deleted the post.
I should have asked, but I didn’t.
I assumed it would be ok, and I was wrong.
🙅🏻♀️
So what do I do when I make a mistake?
I acknowledge.
I apologise.
I rectify.
I reflect.
I learn.
Learning from mistakes is a never ending process of becoming a better version of ourselves.
It can be a painful process.
But a worthwhile one.
I mean, I ran a sql script that included a “Drop Table” in a production sql box (yonks ago)! 😅
Can you beat that doozie?
