Paul Foley, Ray Foulkes and Sam Wadhwani MCMI ChMC talking my love language 😍 (you can see I have many! 😆)
Governance! 😘
The central topic at tonight’s LAUG (London’s Admin User Group)
Sam says:
🍩 In most organisations, governance is evolutionary … Its surprising “how early they are on the maturity curve” 😁 – love the diplomacy here!
🍩 Governance practices, processes and models serve to mitigate gate risks.
🍩 It’s an “us” and a team effort.
🍩 Effective governance need to be transparent.
The most interesting thing is that when it was mentioned that “TRUST” being a key value of Salesforce, I could hear some of the audience chuckling. 🫢
Here’s what Claude had to say about this juicy panel discussion 😏
# Governance Panel: The Juicy Bits
• **The “being done to” trap** – Big lightbulb moment when someone pointed out governance fails when people feel it’s being imposed rather than being part of it. Trust and transparency are massive here!
• **Who owns this mess anyway?** – Hilarious moment when someone asked about responsibility between clients and partners, and the immediate response was “Are you getting paid for it?” 😂
• **The uncomfortable truth** – Partners can help set things up, but clients ultimately need to own governance. As one panelist bluntly put it, “when partners walk away, what happens? It can’t fall down.”
• **Governance flavors** – It’s not just one thing! They talked about technical governance, process stuff, strategic planning, regulatory requirements, data governance, and the new kid on the block: AI governance with ethics councils.
• **”When do we need to care?”** – Someone asked if there’s a company size tipping point for formal governance. The governance enthusiast on the panel basically said “not early enough!” – definitely had some past trauma there!
• **The lonely admin struggle** – Poor Claire shared her experience as “the person who sat in the corner” while her boss who was supposed to be the executive sponsor just said “go talk to Claire” without knowing what Salesforce even was.
• **The hard truth about motivation** – People don’t care about governance until “the proverbial hits the fan.” Classic human nature!
• **Speaking their language** – Want attention? Don’t talk about best practices – talk about business impact. Like how bad governance means taking three weeks just to assess changes.
• **The bullhorn approach** – When all else fails, one panelist jokingly suggested grabbing a bullhorn to get governance attention. Sometimes subtlety doesn’t cut it!
• **Admin power move** – Important reminder that admins “own the system” and should be driving governance from their position even when the business isn’t receptive.
Feeling the FOMO?
