Should you spam your PM?
Wellll…. it depends.
Vi says: I can only speak for myself, because every #ProjectManager is different.
It depends.
If there is trust in the relationship with the client, and the project is in a stable place… and the consultant is experienced, then it isn’t necessary to include me in every email. 😊
However, if the relationship is a little bit tricky, and the project is experiencing a very bumpy ride, or the consultant isn’t experienced – then I say by all means, please spam me. 📧
In fact, I may make it a point to tell the client that I am asking my team to include me in all email threads so that I can keep on top of things.
“But you have a gazillion unread emails in your inbox!” 😱
Calm down. Most of them are unimportant notifications and alerts.
I may not read and absorb every project email in detail but trust me when I say that I am a ninja at scanning the titles and bodies of the emails so that I can pick up any vibe that things are about to become wobbly and step in.
I know that not every project manager does this.
In any case, if a consultant is unsure, then I would advice that they send the draft email to their PM for a quick review before sending it off (this is particularly true for any projects that are little bit messy.
