The HHT framework

The HHT framework on how to fix Indecisions and Analysis-Paralysis.

I categorise the risks of making poor decisions into the following (heard it on a podcast):
🍩Hat decisions have no consequence. Don’t like the hat? Change it. No drama.  🎩👒🧢🎓
🍩Haircut decisions have limited consequence. Bad haircut? No worries – it’ll grow out and then we can re-style.💇🏻‍♀️
🍩Tattoo decisions are costly and painful to rectify, so proceed with care.

As a volunteer listener for Samaritans, a charity that supports callers in crisis who are sometimes feeling suicidal, I hear a lot of stories of outcomes of decisions (usually not good outcomes).

I have learned that a lot of decisions are in the Hat and Haircut category, but when we agonise too much over what to do (before we do it) and why did we do what we did (after the fact) regardless of the outcome… it can just send us into a spiral. 😵

On the flipside, when we don’t realise that we are making a Tattoo decision, either disregarding the impact or not paying attention to the decision making process – we are likely to make bad decisions. 🙈

For example – many people pay more attention to what car to buy compared to who they will choose as a life partner.

So whenever you’re facing a decision – the first thing is to decide whether it’s a Hat, a Haircut or a Tattoo type of decision.

This will save you a lot of energy and time. 👍🏻
