What do fire fighters and #Salesforce Consultants have in common?
Their day job involves putting out fires that they didn’t start! 😬
#FunnyNotFunny

It sounds like a joke but it happens all the time.
It’s sad but I know seasoned consultants out there are nodding their head in agreement. 🙁

Many partners focus more on getting the £££ in.
On utilisation. 📈
On billable hours.
So that they can pay the bills and make payroll.

And perhaps show a fat P&L so that they can make themselves an attractive acquisition target. (You know it’s true).
😐

They don’t focus enough on the really important things.
Like making sure the way they work is correct. 🌱
And making their methodology work for them.
And nurturing new recruits with kind and comprehensive onboarding process.
And giving their consultants a safe and caring environment so that they can be creative and do hard and impossible things. 🏋🏻‍♀️

Right now, I know of two who care deeply about their people, their client, and about doing work that they can be proud of.

They’ve engaged me to train ALL their consultants.

In fact, I’m doing something exciting with one of them! ☺

I’ll be leading Discovery for one of their biggest clients while running the Masterclass for the consulting team, where we’ll be dissecting each step of the discovery and getting the team involved in the end-to-end process of
– gathering requirements
– writing strong user stories
– diagramming their business processes correctly
– practicing active listening,
– asking artful questions, and
– presenting solutions

It’s just like medical residency where junior doctors are involved in the deeper skill of listening and questioning, before diagnosing the illness and recommending a treatment. 👩🏻‍⚕️👨🏻‍⚕️

I mean, you wouldn’t want a doctor who’s just done the theoretical part of their studies to open you up, do you?? 😱

If not, why do we do we let junior consultants run a project without support? 😒

So if you want to be the kind of #SalesforcePartner that attracts and retains outstanding consultants, you will want to nurture an environment that show how much you care.

And that you live in Quadrant 2 of Steven Covey’s time management matrix – in the ‘Important’ quadrant.

Tag your company if you feel that they embody a kind cuture – one that has integrity truly cares for their folks, and walks their talk. 🦆

These are the companies we want to send great consultants to, so let’s give them a shoutout!
And let’s make kindness the norm, not the exception. 🌹
