“But I know my sh!t! The customer was ABSOLUTELY wrong in their point of view…! I was just trying to correct them!”

When you’re new to the ecosystem, especially if you’ve just joined a Consulting Partner (regardless of whether it’s a small, ’boutique’ or larger Global System Integrator (GSI) like IBM, Accenture, PWC or the like…
It is 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘 that you play well with others. 🏓
Many people get their jobs because of their hard skills.
And many will have lost them because of a lack in the human skills.
𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀.
The art of being tactful and diplomatic is a skill, but one that can be honed through awareness and practice.
In situations where you have to deliver not-so-pleasant news or information, it’s the ability to balance that with kindness and caring.
You need to learn how to work with others whose style and personality may be different from yours. ⚔
– internal awareness of your behaviours, expectations and triggers 👀
– the ability to manage your emotional state 🧘🏻♀️
– cognitive awareness of social cues and be in tune with the emotional energy and mood of others 🔍
– the ability to connect with others on a deeper human level by empathetic listening, being present and being curious
In short – it requires 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.
Paying attention to the Human Skills (also known as ‘Soft’ Skills) alongside your skills around Flows, automation, Salesforce Clouds will stand you in good stead.
And as a Grasshopper 🦗, being known to play well with others will mean that you may get on more interestinig projects with fun people!
Now, isn’t that what everybody wants?! 😁
Do you agree that (apart from redundancies), one of the more common reasons people lose their jobs is because of lack of ‘people skills’?
