⏰ Step 4: The BA Plan (Yes, even though BA work is hard to plan)
Laura Brandenburg on the most resisted step: “We’re peeling an onion – we don’t know what’s inside until we peel off a layer.”
BA work = taking ambiguity and bringing clarity.
But here’s the truth: If YOU don’t create a plan, someone will just give you a date. And that will be less realistic than what you’d come up with yourself.
Your BA plan should include:
✅ Types of deliverables needed (processes, use cases, user stories, data models)
✅ Specific deliverables (product backlog, process maps, etc.)
✅ Stakeholder involvement map (WHO needs to be involved in WHAT)
✅ Timeline (backing into dates based on the above)
🎯 The engagement trap: Stakeholders think they can sit down for ONE discussion and everything magically appears 3-5 months later.
Showing their involvement upfront sets realistic expectations and prevents disengagement.
Do you create a BA-specific plan? Or are you working off project dates handed to you?
