I used to pay for team dinners

I used to pay for team dinners out of my own pocket. 🍕🍔🍟
On hot days, I’d sometimes get a big bag of ice lollies and ice cream to hand out to the people I work with, at my own expense. 🍦🍨

Why?
Getting approval for little things like this – small things that bring joy and makes life that little bit brighter, was more trouble than it was worth.

Red tape, bureaucracy, and hierarchy in organisations gets in the way of their own success.

They get too unwieldy and progress is a painful, grinding process.

When you’re working to implement #crm like #Salesforce, you can see that this culture might indicate that you’re going to be in for a “character building” experience!

What do you do?
Where you can, you employ empathy and emotional intelligence to find out what the real situation is.

Do a client reconnaissance, so to speak.

You find out who are the people who move the levers, those who have influence – whether backed by formal authority or not.
You build trust, and you build relationships.

All this, so you yourself, can get your work done, which is to deliver high quality software that work.

This requires you to practice honing your social skills, and learning about human behaviour and mental models.

When I find that my winning smile isn’t enough for me to get my way, I pull out the 🍩 and 🍫

Brightening someone’s day doesn’t need to cost much. Little treats, a listening ear, kindness and compassion.. In effect, treating people like human beings is the real secret to success and gaining the influence you want.

So the Real Lesson on How to acquire Power and Influence that I’ve learned from when I was Queen Overlord and Despotic Ruler of Big Corpdom 👸:
