Have you ever started work on a project without a contract in place?

Have you ever started work on a project without a contract in place? 🤨
Be honest!

A lot of partners tend to do so, because
👉🏻 utilisation. You can’t have consultants on the bench 🙅🏻‍♀️
👉🏻 a (virtual) handshake and their word should be good enough, no?
👉🏻 they don’t want to look like they don’t trust the client
👉🏻 they want to be ‘nice’
👉🏻 they have never been sued before.

All really bad reasons.

Having a contract, a Statement of Work, or at the very least – a Letter of Intent which is a contractually binding document protects both the partner AND the client.

This document must be clear and comprehensive as to the scope, the deliverables, the roles, responsibilities and obligations of all parties, and procedures for change approvals and acceptance (and also fee, as well as what happens on breach of contract). ✅

Yeah yeah… I know – all boring stuff. 😬
But so very important.

You really don’t want to wait until the lawyers get involved.
Much as I love them (I have many lawyer-y friends 🥰) this is not the way to do business, or run projects.

Otherwise, you’re in a world of Pain. 😭
And it will be so much worse than trying to wrestle a porcupine! 🦔

Moral of the story: Don’t start work without a Statement of Work!

Have you ever had to do it?
What happened?
