I almost killed myself

“I almost killed myself trying to get the project live in China. So many obstacles. The Great Firewall. Language. Culture. We didn’t have enough time to get it all right.”

Regret is such a bitter pill to swallow.

The client was a startup who secured an injection of cash in the funding round. The project was exciting but mighty ambitious, as was the startup team.

But…

So many late nights.
So many conference calls.
So many changes.
Except in budget or timeline.

Unfortunately, some of the other obstacles were too big.
Many of them could be predicted, though some could not.

Regulatory.
Technical.
Cultural.
(Did you know many in China use their mobile number as a unique ID? No? I didn’t either).

We met the CEO a year later.

He hadn’t known how ill his father was.
He wasn’t there to say goodbye.
He wasn’t there at the funeral.
Regret is such a bitter pill to swallow.

Because you can never go back in time to fix things.

Instead, fix things now.
Prioritise correctly.
Say the I love you’s, and the I’m sorry’s.

Because sometimes when it’s too late, it really is too late.
