“I don’t know if I’m going to be good enough.”

“I don’t know if I’m going to be good enough.”
She twiddled her pen nervously.

It’s day 1 of training for this new cohort of #Samaritan volunteers.

Yes, this is a tough role.

Volunteering for a crisis phone line, being there to listen to our callers who are going through a tough time isn’t an easy thing to do.

But you know what?
Whatever happens during this journey – whether they get through or not, it will have had a positive effect.

There is no ‘failure’.

Our priority is to keep the volunteers safe, and to keep our callers safe.

That’s why we insist they journal on their self reflection log.

We’ve found that those who introspect deeply usually find the journey easier, especially when they step into the branch and take live calls.

Whether it’s learning how to be a crisis line listener or a #salesforce consultant, a high degree of self-awareness is crucial.

It’s not for everyone.
And if it’s not for you, then you will be one step closer to finding out what IS for you.

But you need to ask the hard questions.

And not be afraid of digging deep for the answers, even if they might not be what you want to hear.

Doing this makes forward motion possible.

By swimming, climbing or flying…depending on your preferred mode of locomotion. 😉
