It only takes 10 seconds

“It only takes 10 seconds.” He said quietly.

“I wish everyone knew that it only takes 10 seconds to save a life.”

My caller last night was about to take an irreversible step off the harbour when someone stopped him, and gave him a card with the #Samaritans number on it.

116 123.

I was the one who picked up the phone when he called.

“If that person did not take that 10 seconds to talk to me at the harbour, I wouldn’t be here, talking to you right now.”

At the end of the intense and emotional call, despite all the awful things that was happening to him, he decided to see what tomorrow would bring. ❤️

Please spare that 10 seconds.

To look around.
To observe and notice the people around you.
To say Hi.
To say How are you doing?

Maybe you don’t have to say anything.
Just sit beside them.
Or hold their hand.

If you’re struggling, please reach out.
You can call freephone 116 123 from the UK, or 998 if you’re in USA.
Or you can email jo@samaritans.org.uk.

You don’t have to do this alone. ❤️
