It’s the Easter bank holiday

It’s the Easter bank holiday here in the UK. 🐰🐣

While it probably doesn’t hold as much religious meaning as it once did, for most people, this 4 day weekend is a time for a break from work/school.

To rest.
To recharge.
To eat chocolate. 🍫
To spend time with family and friends.

Which is why bank holidays can be incredibly tough for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.💔

I don’t believe there’s a set ‘timeline’ for grieving.

The human condition is so beautiful and haunting and diverse that no two experience of love and loss is ever the same.

People will come, pay their respects and bring condolences, flowers and food during the funeral and for a few weeks after that.

However, as time goes by, as the seasons turn, people go back to their busy lives. 🧚☀️

But the excruciating pain of loss is still there.

The hole.

The aching, gaping hole in the fabric of life that feels so deep, and never ending, that maybe it may feel better to not wake up in the morning, if only to stop feeling the pain that feels like it will never go away.

Holidays are special time to be with family.

But it’s also a time when we should check in with those around us, those who may be missing someone deeply, especially at this time.

If this is you, and you’re struggling with bereavement and loss, please call #Samaritans freephone on 116 123.

We are here to listen.
There is no judgement.

We know that sometimes you may need to talk about the memories, because those around you may avoid talking about your loss because they may be afraid to see your tears.

Perhaps they don’t know what to say. 😔

Sometimes you just need to cry and have someone there.🫂

Whatever you’re going through, we are here for you.

Just call us.
Or email jo@samaritans.org if you’re outside the UK.

You don’t have to go through this alone. 🌹
