I’ve been answering crisis calls for Samaritans for over 17 years now.
Mostly late nights.
Becuase that’s when people are at their lowest. 💔
And this is what I’ve learned:
We can make a real difference just by showing up and by listening.
This Saturday I’m doing something a bit different for the Africa Ohana – it’s the last in a series of webinars on “The Road to West Africa Dreamin” African called “When Strangers Become Lifelines – the Power of Community.”
Because the thing is – we’re amazing at solving technical problems in this ecosystem. Debugging Flows? No problem.
But saying “I’m struggling” or “I don’t think I belong here”?
Not so good. 😐
This silence can be costly.
It’s why talented people leave tech.
It’s why someone can have 50 LinkedIn connections congratulate them on a cert and still feel completely alone.
So this Saturday, we’ll explore:
🍩Why listening is a superpower (and how most of us are rubbish at it)
🍩How vulnerability creates safety, not weakness
🍩Why you need different communities for different parts of who you are
🍩How small acts compound into lifelines
This session will be interactive …
Because you can’t learn about connection by being passive.
(Also because you know, that’s how #OnThePeiroll rolls! 😉)
I’ll share stories from three communities I’m part of – Samaritans, Salesforce, and Crossfit. Yes, really 😁 #SorryNotSorry there are other kool-aids I drink!
And you’ll see why being a complete human being (and not just a professional) matters so much.
If you’ve ever felt alone in a crowded room…
If you’ve wanted to ask for help but didn’t know how…
If you’re just curious what a crisis line volunteer can teach us about thriving in the Salesforce world…
Join us Saturday evening 5pm UK time – also it’s only 45 minutes – not 90!!
(Deets below 👇🏻 – remember to set the filter on “Most Recent” because LinkedIn hides comments with URLs 🙄)
And if you know someone who needs to hear this – someone who’s been quiet lately, someone on the edges – bring them along.
Be the person who invites them in. ❤️
See you there.
#FindYourPeopleps: Thank you ThankGod Onyekachukwu Okoro for inviting me to do this 🥰
