Insincere flattery.
Ingratiating behaviour.
MUCHO CRINGE. 🤢🤮
Just doing hard work should get you the promotion, accolades… but that is rarely the case though.
And many of us, especially those who have worked in highly political (read: slimy & toxic) environments recoil from participating in ‘Office Politics’.
“Does it mean I have to be a snake too?”
No.
But we do need to understand what it takes to get ahead in the workplace, and being amazing at our job is sometimes just not enough.
In order to progress and move forward in our career, we need to be VISIBLE. 👀
Because if we were invisible, no one will listen to us and we won’t be able to COMMUNICATE.
If we can’t communicate, then we won’t be able to PERSUADE.
And if we can’t do that, we cannot BUILD TRUST.
This leads us to be stuck alone, and you won’t have anyone fighting your corner.
And so – emotional intelligence is key, especially on how to build VISIBILITY and INFLUENCE without the taint of slimey snakishness.
