So near yet so far!!

NGGGRH! 😫
So near yet so far!!

Ever had a project go-live delayed because of technical issues?!
Yeah, they’re not fun.

My book: 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝟭𝟬𝟭 – 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘂𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀.

It’s finished.
Done in 54 days instead of 45.
However I’ve encountered two showstoppers so far in my attempts to actually publish it:

1. My tax classification. As a UK author publishing on the USA-based Amazon publishing site (to allow worldwide distribution), I had to clarify my tax status or they’d hold be 30% for IRS 😣

Not over my dead tootsies I say! 👣

Anyway, I got that sorted only to be hit by…

2. Inability to order proofs! This is the ‘not-for-resale’ physical copy I can get to check and make sure everything’s fine and dandy before I hit the [Publish] button and make it live on Amazon.

Arg! Case number 20259984 has been sitting with tech support for almost a week now and they are still unable to figure out why they can’t see my submission.

Sigh.

Anyway this was a long winded post to tell you why the book’s not quite ready yet, especially after I made so much noise about it the last few weeks. 😬

Sometimes no matter how well we plan the project, with risk-assessment and contingency plans – sometimes we still hit show-stoppers when we are deploying to production during #Salesforce project go-live.

Sometimes we can do go-live ‘dress rehearsals’, especially if the project is big and complex and down-time is a hugely costly event that needs to be avoided at all costs.

Obviously this is my first time trying to publish a book, so I was unaware of the process, and the risks involved in doing it myself.

Perhaps I am the stubborn mule in this scenario. 🐴
Maybe I should have got an expert to help me.

But then again, where would the fun be in that?! 😁

You can order signed copies (when it gets published!) and also help save some lives, by donating to #Samaritans, a charity that helps people who are feeling suicidal. Details in comments below.

Got a story about a showstopper that derailed a project?
I want to hear it!

In the meantime, I’ll just call customer service again to try and get an update on my case. 😑
