The Jan 2024 cohort of new volunteers for #Samaritans has just finished their training, and there is trepidation (understandably) in taking a real life call with someone who’s in emotional distress.
Self-reflection has been a crucial tool in helping us (the trainers) observe their emotional journey throughout these intensive weeks.
Those who lean into the really difficult questions, and dig deep to find answers – no matter how painful and tough, will be able to face challenges head-on.
The questions they ask during our live sessions shows the level of introspection and maturity in their thinking process.
Those who have not made the time to do so, ask different types of questions – and we can tell that they may find it difficult when they take their first call.
High performers talk about journaling as a tool for accelerating self-development.
It is also a tool to analyse your buttons and triggers and do the work necessary to heal, repair, and ultimately to thrive.
It’s not easy – but it’s important work.
You’re worth it.
