They wanted me to do the CPQ exam

“They wanted me to do the CPQ exam so that we’d win the deal!”
“Boss said the Experience Cloud cert was just multiple choice, so I just had to guess. That would help us win the project.”

I’ve had this conversation so many times.
Just replace the certification exam with another one.
😔

Founders and managers of #SalesforcePartners don’t know the kind of stress they put on their team, when they want more out of them but don’t want to invest in training.

“I can’t sleep because I don’t know anything about this project they’ve put me on. They think that if I pass the cert, that I will know what I’m talking about!”

Sometimes it feels like common sense isn’t common at all.

I understand that there’s a pressure to win deals to make payroll.
But this is not the way.
It is unkind, and morally wrong.

I’ve been in the same situation many times in the past, and have always yielded to my superiors because – what do I know?
Maybe I need to toughen up to make it in the consulting world.
Yeah… and now I have the scars to show for it. 😣

This is not the way.

If you want your people to do outstanding work – set them up to succeed.
Give them the training, the support and the ongoing mentoring to build up skills and confidence.

Don’t “chuck em in the deep end and see if they swim!” <– every consultant will have heard this phrase! 🤮
Hate it hate it hate it!

These are human souls and we must treat them with dignity and care.

If your manager is making such demands from you, perhaps it’s time to take a good hard look about where you are now, and whether it will help you get where you want to be.

There’s a difference between toughening up to take on hard challenges, and allowing yourself to be bullied into a toxic situation that serves no one.
Know the difference.

What have you been asked to do that’s been just a tad bonkers?
