When do I listen with my head 🧠?

When do I listen with my head 🧠?
And when do I listen with my heart ❤?

It depends.

I listen with my ❤ when someone’s sharing something vulnerable.
When they want someone to listen and understand.
When they don’t want someone to ‘fix’.
When they just want someone … to be there.

I usually listen with my head 🧠 when I’m in work mode.
When we are trying to problem solve.
When we are brainstorming.
When we are trying to get somewhere.

And it can be anywhere in between, depending on the conversation.

When we are in a situation that is highly charged with emotion, I will start with #ActiveListening and try to understand what the other party is going through.

I listen with my ❤

Why are they feeling upset?
Does it have anything to do with me or why we are here?
Perhaps they don’t feel understood or listened to?

I find that by listening with empathy, being consciously present and by asking gentle questions, I will not only get an understanding of the emotional upset, but the situation will also be de-escalated.

The fire will have died down a bit. 🔥🧯🌊👨🏻‍🚒

And THEN I can switch on the work-mode and start listening with my head. 🧠

The opposite can also be true.
Sometimes work discussions can lead to sharing of personal struggles and stories that touch us on the human side.

Don’t stay on one side or the other.
Master the ability to flex your listening skills and your operational mode depending on the situation.

That’s how you become a masterful #Salesforce Consultant.

Do you listen more with your ❤ or your 🧠?
