You’re not going to get anything out of that arm

“You’re not going to get anything out of that arm, ” I winced. 😣 “That one’s got rubbish veins.” 💉

She taps the inside of my right elbow.
“Nope. Found a good one here.”

The phlebotomist gently pushes the needle in and draws out blood easily, much to my amazement.

“Wow! No one’s done it on this arm before!”

She beams with pride. “That’s 16 years of experience right there.”
That was what I was doing last Sunday.

The night before, I was at a friend’s house, getting a few summer dresses altered.

With 27 years of experience altering bridal dresses, she knew instantly what needed to be done to make me look good. 💃

It’s such exquisite joy to work with someone who is excellent at their craft.

They are someone who have found the intersection between doing what they are excellent at, and what they care about deeply.
They have so many years in the field that they know all facets of it, and they can see things no one else can.
They know what works, and more crucially, when they learn that something doesn’t work, they know the reasons why. 😎

This is what will be lost if we rely too heavily on AI to do our work.

Someone who uses ChatGPT to write all their emails perfectly will struggle in face to face conversations. 🤖
Someone who gets it to help them write code will never really understand what bad code actually is.

We will feed the AI machine with everything it needs to get better, but to our detriment.

I think that if we aren’t intentional with how we use AI, we will outsource all the mistakes that help us progress and move forward, which is such a crucial element of learning and growth.

𝗜𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁.

Don’t fear mistakes.
Learn from it.
Try again, but better.

It’s the bloody knees and scrapes that will eventually shape the person you become.

AI is coming, so you will need to figure out how to become a Master of Something Uniquely You. ❤
