I did a talk Ninja 3’s school this morning for two Year 5 classes and two Year 6 classes*. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I was surprised at the really deep and insightful discussion with one of the Year 6 groups, where they shared their thoughts about empathy and why they might not want to talk about their problems.

Many were afraid they’d make their friends or parents worried. ๐Ÿ’”
Some wanted their own quiet time to process.

It was quite interesting to note the maturity curve within these two year groups, and I think I pitched the talk just at the right level.

Of course, I added the #Samaritans number 116 123 if they didn’t have anyone around them when they needed someone to talk to.

One boy shared how his grandfather called Samaritans when he got the terminal diagnosis from the doctor, as he did not want to tell his family (though he did in the end). ๐Ÿฅบ

I came away with big feelings in my heart for the young ones, who will face so much in the future.

The ubiquotous use of Internet and smart devices has fueled disconnection as people have not been able to practice social skills as much in the real world, prefering virtual environment and online friends and followers instead.

We are still human beings, with deeply human needs of touch and connection and love and kindness.

We must remember this.
We must be a role model for the younger generation. โค
The rise of AI and technology will only accelerate the disconnection, which is why the effort must be more mindful and a lot more focused.

That is the reason I am making my slide decks free for anyone to modify and use.
They are reasonably self explanatory, but if you have questions – feel free to connect and DM me.

Classroom sessions were from 35-45 minutes as the Year 6 were a lot more engaged, for example scenario 3 sparked much heated discussion about sexism and misogyny! ๐Ÿ˜

Let me know if you use them!
I’d be very grateful for your feedback as well ๐Ÿ˜Š

What do you think?
I wanted to keep it down to 2 golden rules to solidify the takeaway but would love to hear if there’s anything you’d add.

I was totally wiped out at the end of the day!
