(especially if they are projects that are led by #consulting partners)

This could be due to a multitude of problems, but the one that is the messiest, most sticky situation is the ‘People’ factor.

It’s a bit like me thinking that hiring a Personal Trainer would turn me into a svelte movie star 💃 without me having to lift a finger (or abstain from 🍩!!!) 😁

Ah, if only.

Change initiatives require internal investment where strong leadership can help create forward momentum for positive change.

Sometimes though, lack of internal alignment (read: internal politicking) can hamper these good intentions. 😐

I’ve known projects where we had to be stealthily ‘hidden’ from the IT department and we were made to do workshops in a freezer! (Client was a national supermarket chain) 😖

Yes – I’ve had my share of cloak and daggery moments!

Sometimes this isn’t malicious or intentional.

Sometimes these Salesforce Partners start from a 1-2 man band with certification.

They’d be used to running workshops and configuring and developing and building funky stuff. 🚀

But they wouldn’t have any idea about the operations side of the business, the human side of talent acquisition and retention, and the leadership side of Doing the Right Things.

For example, they may be tempted to incentivise sales with commission without putting in joined-up thinking to ensure that realistic promises are made so that the delivery team can do a good job.

And so, the sales team end up promising the ‘dream’ to close the sale, and then lob the project over the fence for the team to deliver the ‘nightmare’. 😡

This is where the #SalesforcePartner may have bitten off more than they can chew.

They’ve promised to eat the elephant.
With a dessert spoon. 🥄

Ok, I am never known for my witty metaphors. 😁

It’s forcing your team to take on far more than they are able to, because they haven’t got the experience, or the training.

Or because your sales team has over-sold the contract.😕
Either way – this is something that #leadership needs to fix.

Notice the pattern here?
It’s all because of the #People part of the equation.

It’s almost never the technology side, because we all know how sexy #Salesforce (as a product) can be, right?

Instead of blaming the tech, it’s a lot more helpful to take a pause and introspect.
Ask the hard questions.
Have the difficult conversations.
Lean into the uncomfortable feelings.
And truly listen to the answers that come forth.

Because that’s where the answer lies.
Do you think there are other big reasons why projects become RED?
