50 callers waiting.
For more than 9 minutes.
Just to talk to a Samaritans listening volunteer.
I hope they stay on the line.
Please stay.
Please.
Please don’t give up.
It was a tough shift last night.
We never know when our story might get a “… and suddenly…” moment.
When it happens…
Our lives could change irrevocably.
The world could lose its meaning.
The light could go out.
And the darkness could start to feel overwhelming.
Please reach out to someone.
If you’re in the UK, and you need someone to listen,
please call Samaritans freephone 116 123.
If you’re in the USA,
the suicide crisis line is 988.
I know there is a queue (there is always a queue).
And I hope you don’t give up.
“I am so glad you picked up the phone. I was about to do something I know there is no coming back from.” 💔
When I hear that, everything else stops for me.
For however long it takes, my world and my consciousness revolves around that voice on the phone.
At the end of the call, I hope I made a difference.
If you’re in a good place in your life, please consider volunteering for your local
#Samaritans (check out our website for your local branch) or a crisis phoneline in your area that provides support to others.
We desperately need more listeners who will hold a safe space for those who are struggling.
The world really needs us now more than ever.
