Advisory doesn’t have to mean detached.

Advisory doesn’t have to mean detached.

As careers progress, the work often shifts from hands-on delivery to advisory and strategy. But Kristyna Turner made an important distinction when Vanessa asked about her journey:

Yes, her role moved towards advisory – intentionally.

But she also made a conscious effort to stay close to the work.

Not to configure everything herself.

Not to be an expert in every platform.

But to understand enough to:

🍌Challenge decisions

🍌Ask uncomfortable questions

🍌Sense when something doesn’t quite add up

Working across multiple platforms (Salesforce, HubSpot, Adobe, and others) wasn’t about mastery. It was driven by curiosity — and grounded in principles.

The focus wasn’t on keeping up with every feature release, but on staying sharp on:

Core marketing and customer journey principles

Processes and orchestration

How users actually work with the tools

Platforms change. Principles travel.

And here’s a great line:

Staying too hands-on can sometimes rust judgement, not sharpen it.

That balance – close enough to understand, far enough to see clearly – feels like one of the real skills of senior practice.
