Ah! Expectations!

Ah! Expectations!
You know you are setting yourself up for a world of pain when you know you won’t be able to meet the expectations of other people.

That Tinder date tonight who might be expecting the photoshopped younger, skinnier, sexier version of you. 💃🏻 😛

Your partner who just saw some acrobatic marvels on a webseries and is expecting the same in your bedroom 😲

The manager who’s expecting you to be the main liason on a client facing role on a challenging project that’s seen off 3 other experienced consultant. Because your CV states that you’ve been working with a #Salesforce partner for the last few years…. even though you’ve been on managed serviced projects during that time, and have not really been on an implementation project. 😬

This is a very tricky position to be in.

If you don’t like what you’re doing, then find away to change it – either by changing the internal environment, or finding new pastures. 🐎

If you leave it too long, then the expectation gap will be much bigger when you decide to jump ship. 🚢

It’s still not an impossible task – you’ll just have a much bigger adjustment to make as you’re likely to need to revise salary expectation down to match the required capability or competency of the consulting role you want to aim for.

Along with that – to find an understanding organisation that will help you expand your experience and level up the missing skills you need to feel more confident in your role.

I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’ve been in this position.
