Ever been in a conversation

Ever been in a conversation/debate/discourse and think, “Hmm. that’s just lazy thinking.”? 🤨

Rigorous Thinking, the close sister of #CriticalThinking, is something that I would place right next to #EmotionalIntelligence in the two skills I believe would set anyone up for a successful life.

As a parent of tween/teen ninjas – I am hoping that by finding ways of distilling important messages into short digestible memes 🙄 (and repeating them often enough), I’ll be able to help prepare them for The Big Wide World.

No, it’s not high IQ. (but don’t think you can bomb that Chemistry test, buddy!)
And no, it’s not being popular or being liked.
Or having the best connections and knowing the Who’s Who in your world.

All those things help move you forward in your job or relationships, but they don’t last – especially if you have a lazy way of thinking and you haven’t polished the EQ side of life.

This week’s newsletter from Wes Kao focussing on Rigorous Thinking is a MUST-READ for anyone wanting to understand themselves and the world in a way that is substantive.

As a volunteer listener for #Samaritans, an organisation dedicated to reducing suicide by listening and being there for our callers – I know how seldom we humans explore deeply, perhaps because we are afraid of what we might find.

When I stop and ask myself, “What unconscious bias are playing around in my thinking on this topic right now?”

I am usually embarrassed and ashamed at some of the answers that I come up with. 😣

And then I get down to the hard work of digging deeper to find out why, and whether this thinking pattern serves me.
Because it’s the only way I know to be better.

That’s what I want to be.
Better than I was yesterday.
In all the ways that matter. 💪🏻❤🧠

If you’re like me, you need to sign up to Wes‘s newsletter right now.

She drops big bombs of #GoodStuff every Wednesday.
