Gift giving can be so fraught

Gift giving can be so fraught with emotional booby traps. 🎁💣

Who gets what?
Do you have to be equally fair to all siblings or cousins or grandchildren?
What’s fair?
Do you go by value of presents? 💰
By size?
By what’s needed?
Do you give cash?
Is cash even acceptable?
Who are you giving it for?
Is it so you’re seen to be fair and generous?
Is it for the recipient?
Do you do just one present or do you do a primary and a few “secondaries”?
Do you give the recipient what they want?
Or do you give them what you think they need? Like deodorant or soap? 🧼
Or do you do a classic “Homer” where you get the recipient a gift that’s actually for yourself?

Think long and hard about why you’re doing it. For those with little ones, is it about creating magic?
What are they learning from you about the holiday and the rituals?

For those whose partner may have grown up with different beliefs and want to recreate their childhood with your family, decide what’s important.

Is it important to make a stand about what you believe (or not)… I mean, can a man physically travel all around the world within 24 hours? 🎅🦌

And how come he never visited me when I was little? 😭 Was I perpetually naughty or did he not know where Malaysia is? I mean, none of my school friends got anything either. 😐

Husband is amazing at creating magic and I know this is as much for him as it is for the kids.
He has a gift for it, and is able to do this when I cannot. I know I can be a grinch sometimes. 😁

With my not-so-little ninjas approaching teenage years, there will be fewer magical moments, so I’ll just sit back and enjoy the whole thing.

I hope this season has been everything you’ve hoped for.
Donut holes are just as amazing as the non-holes when given with ❤️🍩 🥰

Did you get something that blew your mind? What was it?
