I’m in Mexico with the family

I’m in Mexico with the family for holiday 🏖 and it’s been lovely.

The weather, the people, the food!
Amazing! 😍

We noticed the hustle culture as people work hard to make a living, and Carlos embodies it.

He’s a gregarious Mexican who has a charming patter, and talked to us about the lovely things we could see and do.

Yesterday afternoon, we were chatting about our next excursion when I just said, “Carlos, tell me about your family. I’d love to know more about you.”

His eyes lit up and he showed me photos and started telling me about his son and granddaughter, and his lovely mum who survived covid twice, and his dad who passed away, and his three wonderful sisters.

And then he got more quiet as he recounted a painful divorce that ruined him financially, two suicide attempts, and discovery of terminal illness and the condition is stabilised with expensive medication.

“How can I find someone to love with this sickness? Who would want to be with someone like me, someone who has nothing?”

We talked about how he might broach the subject early on, and perhaps seek out friendships first before romance.
We talked about how he might ‘practice’ his approach and look for those around him who may be able to help provide a safe space and candid feedback and help him gain confidence.

How often do you create these types of connections?
How often are you able to make an impact in someone’s life?
It cost me absolutely nothing.

I just asked some questions, and I spent an hour or so just listening.
No judging.
Just empathetic active listening.
It is the key in creating deep relationships.

I doubt I will see Carlos after I leave here, but it’s ok.
If I can show my kids how to create real human connections every where they go, they will grow up believing that this is the way the world should work.

Creating magic moments, one interaction at a time.
That’s the kind of world I’d like my kids to grow up in.

When was the last time you made a deep human connection?
I’d love to hear your story. ❤
