“Oh dear. That’s a tad inconvenient.”

“Oh dear. That’s a tad inconvenient.” said my neighbour, on hearing that a water leak had caused the collapse of the ceiling over her kitchen. 😲

The British can be so understated. 😬

But that might explain why they are known to keep a ‘stiff upper lip’ and are generally unflappable.

The language I use moderates my emotion, and I will carefully choose the words to describe my feelings so that I can remain resourceful in finding a way forward.

So for example, I am rarely ‘fuming’, or ‘raging’.

The other two things that impact my emotional state is:

🍩 What I choose to FOCUS my attention on (“How not-up-to-standard is this deliverable?” vs “This is really good effort for a new intern who has not had proper support and guidance but I need to spend more time with her to make sure she gets better at this.”)

🍩 My physical state. E.g. binging on comfort food for temporary relief of emotional turmoil only to suffer the sugar crash, vs taking a walk through nature or petting a furry creature. 🐕

What are the things you do to change your emotional state?
