Silver lining?!

“Silver lining?!” 😣
“New beginnings?!?!” 😡

The new year has brought a raft of bad news from companies such as Salesforce and Amazon who have waited until after the holiday period before laying off people.

“I don’t understand how they can get rid of you when you’re three times as good as Hooha from the other team, who’s really pretty useless. 🤬”

“You’ll be fine – you are so talented. 💪🏻”

“Send me your updated CV and I’ll forward to every single one of my contacts. I know one is hiring, although they are looking for someone of a totally different skill set and in a country two continents away from you. 🌍 But never mind. I just want to feel like I am helping.”

No.
Stop. ❌

When people are in distress, sometimes they just want to be heard.

This is what I say:

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄?
Do you need to vent?
Because you can vent at me.
Be angry.
Be shouty.
Swear if you need to.
Or cry.
I am here for all of that. 💞

𝗢𝗿 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽?
Do you want me to review your CV, or LInkedIn Profile?
Do you want to talk through your options?
Is there someone I can introduce you to?
How can I leverage my resources to help you out of this darkness?

I don’t start by jumping in with a solution, or a platitude.
Because sometimes that’s not what’s needed.

If you want to help, start with #Empathy.
Kind, non-judgemental ear.
Listen, and just be present. ❤

RIght now, more than ever, the world needs #kindness.
So #BeKind… to others, and to yourself.

HOWEVER…
If you’re looking for some light in the darkness, a perspective to what’s happening…

Check out the latest podcast episode from Talent Stacker | Salesforce Career Development Program where Bradley Rice has a conversation with the amazing lady that is Jodi Hrbek discussing the question: 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳?

There are some truth bombs 💣 in there.
Ones that stand the tests of time and the boom-bust cyclical nature of business that may provide hope during this tumultuous time.

And so, I’ll leave you with this one quote:

“𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒕 𝑺𝒂𝒖𝒄𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑺𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒄𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝑺𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔.”

You’ll need to listen to the podcast to hear the rest of the excelllent content.

Now back to the question:
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲? 🌹
