What’s your legacy?

What’s your legacy?

Ego drives a lot of ambitious people to want to leave a legacy.
A street named after them.
A building sporting the family crest.
A place in history.
Children.
Descendents.
Values.
Family stories.

“Your legacy is every life that you’ve touched.” Maya Angelou.

I believe that with every bit of my soul.
I give attention to every interaction I have with every one I meet.
Every one is worthy of being seen.
Of being listened to.

I don’t know if I really believe in karma.
There are far too many evil in the world that has never seen and will never see the light of justice.
It is a wonderful concept, and it’s something that I’d like to believe.
And so, I conduct myself in a way that is aligned with my values, whether anyone is watching or not.*

There will be no One at the end of the road who will judge me for the acts I have committed in life.
Only me.

I choose to live a life I can be proud of.

I choose to teach this to my children by my action, and my words, and I am hopeful that they will learn this before the shallow culture of life comparison on social media erodes their sense of self.

The number of likes and followers you have does not a legacy make.
It’s the number of people whose lives you’ve brightened.
It’s the meaningful interactions.

What’s your legacy?
