I am right. You are wrong.

I am right. You are wrong.
I am smart. You are dumb.
I am superior. You are not.

The world feels even more divided at the moment, and now that Google has made the Internet so accessible – everyone can find ‘supporting evidence’ for their way of thinking, being and believing.

Pro-vaxxer or not?
Pro-life or not?
Pro-gun or not?

Obviously those are the hot-button topics, but I believe that such strong stand on any given subject makes it challenging to have an open honest debate about things that matter.

If you are not open to the fact that you _may_ be wrong, because you’ve wrapped your identity around the stand and have climbed up so high on that hill that you’re willing to die on it, then die you will. 😵

Sometimes I do not engage in such debates, especially if :
– the other party is married to their dogma
– they aren’t hurting any one
– they will not engage with socratic questioning and open discussion
– I cannot create any net positive effect in society
– I don’t know enough to make a strong stand

I guard my emotional energy closely, for I wish to only spend it on important things, including
– convincing ninja 1 that allowing 24hr game time for children does not make me a ‘better mum’ 🙄
– persuading ninja 2 that when cavities make an appearance, no tooth fairy will come to the rescue
– debating whether I’d prefer to pick my nose with my big toe or rub my eyes with my elbow, or death. 😯

This makes the 🍍 on 🍕 argument is so tame in comparison.

In any case when using Internet, beware #ConfirmationBias.
You will always find ‘supporting’ theories, documents, studies, journal articles to back up your argument.
