It’s Christmas day and we are feeling low.

It’s Christmas day and we are feeling low.

Our lead guide advised us that our son could not continue the climb safely as he was hit with altitude sickness quite badly and was stumbling.

Our choice was for a guide to go down with him
1. alone
2. with one parent.
3. with all of us.

Even though summitting Mt Kili on the year I hit 50 was an important goal, it would only been meaningful if it was with my whole family.

And so on Day 4 of 8 day trek, all of us descended.

Son really wanted to push on but it wasn’t his call. He felt very despondent.

The other two kids also felt very low but there was no blaming. Only support for each other.

I felt so proud of them all. ❤️

We hadn’t achieve our goal of conquering Mt Kilimanjaro.

We had, however trekked about 35km and ascended to 4500m.
And that is an incredible achievement.

It also means that we know what to expect when we try this again next time! 💪🏻

For those of you generous people who donated to our fundraising page for Medicin sans Frontiers (Doctors without Borders), please let me know if you’d like your money back and I’ll initiate that process with justgiving and the charity.

But if you still want to support a worthy organisation that helps people in conflict zones like Gaza, I would love it if you can donate. Link in comments 👇🏻

Today, it’s Christmas.

We are not where we are supposed to be.
And we are not home with all our friends and extended family.

But we are safe.
We are together.
And we are so deeply grateful. ❤️

From me and my family, to you and yours, we would like to wish you a Safe and Happy Holiday season 🎄
