How can you force your stakeholders to care?
How can you compel change?
In other words – Why do people do what they do? Or don’t?
#ChangeManagement is a deeply fascinating topic – for me as a project delivery practitioner as well as a parent and an observer of human nature.
We want people to do things because they want to do it.
The art is in figuring how to make people WANT to do things.
Is it the application of carrot and sticks? 🥕🤺
I think the secret is in making people valued and believe thar what they do matters, and that in itself is the strongest motivation you can find.
It’s
– helping them see how the new system will make their life better
– showing appreciation that is more than just swag and empty shoutouts
– supporting them in meaningful ways that go beyond corporate policies
Why does an organisation like Crisis go from strength to strength? 💪🏻
Volunteer numbers grow every year – people come back again and again.
Why?
It’s because we feel like we are not only making a difference to our guests, but that we love the version of ourselves that are choosing to do this.
That’s why I roped in my niece to do this with me.
When asked her the biggest takeaway from yesterday’s shift, she said, “Even when the world seems to be so dark and going absolutely crazy, there are still so much good in humanity.”
“I love that this is what kindness looks like.” 🫠💓
Tonight’s Crisis shift is with the women’s only refuge shelter, for those experiencing abuse and escaping from a life of pain and trauma.
This will be tough for me, having gone through the experience myself – which is why it is important that I do this.
Whatever behaviour we want to create, whether its
🍩 Using the new system enthusiastically
🍩 Being disciplined about health and wellness
🍩 Being more intentional about parenting or relationship
🍩 Doing more for others even when it’s tough…
We will do it if we know we are making a difference.
Even when it’s hard.
Change is hard.
But we #CanDoHardThings
Tonight’s shift will be hard for me.
But I’m so lucky to be out of that dark place now, and I need to do this for those who are still in that place.
We need to be the light for others.
If you’re lucky like me, find your own way of bringing your light to others. 🕯️
In whatever way you can. ❤️
We need more kindness in the world.
Ps I’ll be wearing my #Kindness Shirtforce tee on my shift tonight. 🥰
Also bringing my famous Peimous chocolate chip cookies for all the volunteers. 😆 Hope they practice some kindness if the cookies are a tad overdone! 🍪😁
