1 year in consulting

1 year in consulting = 3 years industry experience*

That’s 2nd element on my SaConJa** Skills framework (first one is Domain Excellence).

I don’t believe that there are many careers out there that can provide you with the breadth of experience in as many industries as the #CRM#ConsultingLife.

I say CRM because that allows you to get to know how businesses are run, how they attract and acquire customers, what their business is about, and all sorts of things that is generally only available to those working there.

The only industry I’ve managed to properly avoid has been in Banking and Financial services – I’ve been told that it isn’t as fun as other sectors. 😆

No regrets though, as I’ve had mountains of fun working on other industries with clients such as Chelsea Football club, British Library, Natural History Museum, Comic Relief, British Heart Foundation just to name a few.

Just. So. Much. Fun!
And I’ve made friends for life along the way, both from my own team and on the customer side. ❤️

Business experience in a wide range of industries add to your skill set as a consultant.

You see patterns of how things evolve especially human behaviour.
You get a deeper appreciation for Systems Thinking and how everything is connected.

People.
Processes.
Technology.

Problem solving becomes an exciting opportunity to hone your craft and become more excellent in your field.

That’s why I love it.

Domain excellence and business experience are two of the 6 key skills I believe make up an outstanding #Salesforce consultant.

Consulting life isn’t for everyone, and that’s OK.

It can be scary, and it can demand a lot from you but if you choose to grasp it with both hands, you will grow in unimaginable ways.

As long as you know how to look after yourself and set work boundaries, this is an amazing place to be.

What sort of industry sectors do you think would be exciting to do projects in? One that doesn’t need too many 🍩 to survive in 😁?
