What do you mean I’m crazy?!

“What do you mean I’m crazy?! You’re crazy!”

Most people believe that they are the rational one, and that anyone who disagrees with them is irrational.

The vaccination, masking and lockdown debate.
To brexit or not to brexit (this is for us in the UK and we’ve decided to leave the EU now).
Abortion and arguments about the right to bear arms (in USA).

I believe that in order to succeed in life, we should master our emotions, and should always be rational.

Detachment from emotions will frequently lead to a better outcome than decisions controlled by our feelings.

In ‘The Laws of Human Nature’ by Robert Greene, he talks about finding your inner Athena the rational voice that “comes to heroes in times of need, instilling in them a calm spirit, orienting their minds toward the perfect idea for victory and success, then giving them the energy to achieve this.”

This was something Pericles, the philosopher and elder statesman of Athens, would base his political decisions.

It helped him avoid ego traps.

I like that.

This concept aligns beautifully with the self mastery part of Daniel Goldman’s Emotional Intelligence quadrant.

Instead of saying “I’m going to work on mastering my self and my emotions”…

I’m going to say, “I’m working on my inner Athena. “

For some reason, that makes me feel so badass 😎 as if I’m channelling Gal Gadot, who plays Diana – also known as Wonder Woman.

Now that I’ve completed the loop between Pericles and Marvel, I can go to bed. 😁
