Volunteering is one activity where I get a lot more than I give. ❤️
And I’ve been volunteering for Crisis at Christmas since 2003, and more recently as a Samaritans listener for our unhoused guests.
If you are at a loose end (or if you want a ‘cough’ break from the family) over Christmas, why don’t you consider volunteering your time? 😬 The only commitment is at least 2 shifts, but no one’s going to stop you if you want to do more!
Once family visit plans have been confirmed, I’ll be applying for shifts – so if you’re in London and this sounds interesting – and maybe you’d like to do it with me, drop me a comment below or a DM.
It can be tough emotionally when you hear some of the stories of our guests, but it can also be deeply rewarding. Otherwise I wouldn’t keep doing this over the years. 🥰
The most amazing feeling is when I go back and I see a volunteer who used to be a guest!! ❤️❤️❤️
If you want to know a bit more, you can read an article I wrote in 2019 on “𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗱𝘀 – 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀” 💗 (Link in the comments – remember to set your filter to “Most Recent”).
They are looking for all sorts of volunteers – general ones, IT, drivers, cooks, physiotherapists, musicians, doctors, vets, hairdressers… it doesn’t matter – we could always use an extra pair of hands. 💞
Hopefully see you there?
