What’s the point of

🍩Working hard

🍩Facing hardship

🍩Being disappointed

🍩Being hurt

🍩Facing loss, grief and trauma

etc etc etc…

When the world seems to be descending into madness and we are all going to die anyway?

I had a poignant conversation with the quiet sprog, the introverted and thoughtful one this morning as I dropped him off at school.

Yesterday during my Samaritans shift, this also seemed to be things that our caller’s struggle with. 💔

It’s a hard question to answer, especially since the news just seem to prove the point … That there is no point to anything because we appear to be on a one-way road to Utter Chaos and Madness (I shall coin it UCaM™ 😁)

All I could offer sprog this morning was the story of the starfish, which he hadn’t heard before.

Once upon a time there was a beach full of starfish dying in the hot sun. ☀️🔥

A man watched a young boy pick one up and fling it into the ocean.

“What are you doing young man? You’re not going to make a difference. Look at aaaaallll the starfish on this beach that are going to die.”

The boy picked up another one, and with a mighty heave he flung it into the sea.

“I made a difference to this one,” he said.💗

The world can feel cold and cruel and unkind, and it may feel like an impossible task to change the march into UCaM™… But we can make a difference in our little corner of the world.

Our family.

Our friends.

Our colleagues.

Our neighbours and our community. ❤️

One kind act at a time.

One starfish at a time.

And maybe we can slowly infect the world with kindness and goodness and reverse what looks like a slow march into madness.

Anyway I was off to French Touch Dreamin’ so I told sprog I’d see him later this week. I wonder if I left him with some things to chew on… Or maybe he’s just thinking about his poor mum’s descend into her own brand of 🐄 madness 😅

Ah well, what’s the point of being a parent when I can’t mangle story tales and current events and starfish in one morning during school drop off?!

But I do hope he’ll feel a bit more hopeful about the world that we live in. Life is about making a difference to those around us.

Yes we are going to die anyway, why not have fun and make it a good one? ❤️
