“Quack quack quuackity quaaack?” 🪿

“Moo Moomi Meowoww!” 🐄🐈

Sometimes project meetings feel like a visit to McDonald’s farm 😬, because no one seems to be saying things that mean the same thing.

For example, a project RAG status – or the practice of using traffic lights to indicate overall health of a project via different dimensions require Data Dictionary. 🚦

…Or at least some form of agreed definition so we are all speaking the same language. 🙄

When the argument comes down to:

“I don’t want to set project status to RED because it’s not ‘It’s gone nuclear and we can’t work anymore’ so it will stay as YELLOW.”

That just makes things difficult to escalate to steering committee to help unblock urgent items so we can continue to move forward. 😖

This happens in organisations that have a culture that is highly political because we should not be afraid of saying:

“Hey, we’re in trouble and we need some support here!” 🛟

Misunderstandings, un-clarity (is there such a word??) and misalignment breeds situations where assumptions will cause pain… and the pain gets pain-ier as time goes by – I think I need to write a white paper about this 😆

This is especially true on a client-side project, where miscommunication, misalignment and politics cause no end of delay because they don’t get hit with a big timesheet invoice that a consulting-led project would be issuing every month. 💰💸

Whatever your role, make sure you always get clarity.

Because as Brené Brown says – “Clarity is Kindness.”

And we need more of that please.
