“Should I even be here?”

The feeling of being out of depth. The proverbial ‘Imposter Syndrome’. 🕵🏻‍♀️

That’s normally how Consulting new hires feel when starting new jobs. Completing badges on Trailhead and passing the certs were easy, you could do them in your free time.

But now you’ve been hired to go into businesses and help implement #Salesforce solution, properly.

Even those with experience have moments when they feel that they aren’t good enough. Sometimes it can be a self fulfilling prophesy.

Just get the job done, whatever it takes.
However, there’s a price.

The ‘shortcut’ you used on the production system “that one time” because you were under pressure “it’s only a little thing, no one will know”, will no longer cut it.

When you’re working in a Consultancy, you will be expected to do things properly. No lazy short cuts. Cowboy antics will get you fired.

Do things properly.
Even when no one’s looking.

I was shadowing a founder of a small consultancy years ago who was doing data migration. He had a bunch of records that failed the transformation process and did not get migrated.

“I’ll just delete them. No one will know because they are decommissioning the old system, so no one will be able to check.”

I was speechless. 😲
Suffice to say, I did not stay long at that company.

If you’re good at what you do, and you’re conscientious about your work, you deserve to be there.
