Do #Salesforce BAs need to know the Salesforce platform skills

Do #Salesforce BAs need to know the Salesforce platform skills to do their job well? 🤔

𝗜𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀! … is the lawyer-y answer.

This was a key question that came out of today’s SFBA Exam session on BA and Admin skills.

Salesforce has made getting the Admin exam a pre-requisite for anyone wanting to sit for the BA exam.

I can understand why.
The idea here is that Admins really need BA skills to be outstanding at their job.

I know some truly outstanding tech-agnostic Business Analysts though. They seem to have the power to
– mysteriously reach into people’s heads and extract hidden knowledge 🧙🏻‍♂️
– magically transpose them into diagrams and words that clearly illustrates their Ways of Working.
– translate their verbalized ‘wants’ into true ‘needs’, and articulate them in a way that makes perfect sense. 💎

The BAs identify the WHAT.
The admins, consultants, developers, define the HOW.

If the BA has platform knowledge, it makes it easier to identify a requirement that isn’t Out of the Box, and may require additional cost in terms of custom coding, third party app.

In the worst case, they may realize that the chosen platform is not the right one at all!
😱
Shock! Horror!
Of course that NEVER happens!
*cough*
🤨

At the same time, a really good tech-agnostic BA will be able to do so much more around process improvements that goes far beyond what the Salesforce scope of work necessitates.

Goes back to the “It Depends” answer – on what the organisation need, its maturity level around change management and project delivery, its risk appetite and roadmap around how they want to leverage such a Business Critical system like Salesforce.

It was a fantastic start to the series of workshops, where we will focus on one learning outcome for the #Salesforce BA Exam every week day for the next 5 weeks.

You can still come and join us – link in the comments!

There were 280 who registered for the sessions, and 151 actually appeared! I was pretty chuffed ☺

I was worried that I might not be able to handle such a big crowd, but I’ve managed a format that works really well (I hope).

To those of you who attended, what do you think?
Both of the format and content?
Would love to hear your thoughts.
