Preparing for a new #Salesforce Consultant role

I was fairly well known within the micro ecosystem of the project delivery world within a company (and therefore, people wanted me to work on their project), and didn’t feel the need to expand my network.

Within my company, I would get to know the sales team, the account executives and key people and find out the opportunities they were working on. I’d ask them what’s the next exciting thing in their horizon.

I would not be shy in approaching people and introducing myself, my background and the projects I’ve worked on. I shared my passion, and about the things that excited me in project.

That way, I’d be at the forefront of their minds when something juicy came up. (This was how I got tagged onto some of my most memorable projects!) ๐Ÿฅฐ

Now that wfh and remote working is more of a norm, I’d suggest finding a way to be in the office once a week or once a fortnight to grab coffee with others within your company. Video calls are great, but I am old-school, and am still a super fan of in-person connections.

Zooming out into a more macro view, I should have extended my networking beyond my small micro system.

While others were networking and meeting AEs and other #Saleforce peeps in Heron Tower in London (plus grabbing pockets full of snacks and choccies ๐Ÿ™„) I was too busy doing the actual work of building and rolling out projects.

My #LInkedIn contacts remained static, and I was fine with that.

Now that I’m stepping out further into entrepreneurship from my comfort zone of full time corporate employment, I recognise the value of networking as a tool in its own right; one that is indispensible if I want to take charge of landing the type of opportunities that could really excite me.

That’s why I’m using this platform more and more now, and I’ve developed so many amazing relationships on here that I cannot imagine the “before time”.

If I could travel back 20 years, I think that’s something I’d tell the younger (less wrinkly!) me. It’s not too late though, so start networking now.

You never know where your next project might come from!

And finally – tomorrow…

Perhaps only other Gen-X’ers will get the reference ๐Ÿ˜Š
