Preparing for a new #Salesforce Consultant role Tip 10

Preparing for a new #Salesforce Consultant role
𝗧𝗶𝗽 𝟭𝟬 𝗼𝗳 𝟭𝟮 – 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

The secret of happiness.
Do you want to know what that is?
It’s the true understanding of this formula:

Happiness = Expectations – Reality

(boosted by applying #Perspective into formula).

So in the context of a new hire just starting out, it is imperative that you first of all – understand what’s expected of you (see Tip 1 – link in comments).

And assuming that you’ve been hired into the correct position (i.e. you’ve not conflated your experience and hired into a much tougher role) or the #ConsultingPartner is being fair by making sure they aren’t going to assign you work beyond your capability… then it’s all up to you to make it work.

What’s the fastest way to make someone upset?
Not meet their expectations.

What if their expectations are unreasonable?
Ah, that’s a topic for a different post.

As a new recruit, you were hired to meet some basic expectations.
Do what you say you can do (capability and competency).
Do what you say you will do (assigned tasks)
Keep your promises (timesheets!! And general reliability).

You may want to exceed expectations if you are so inclined.
Learn and do more than what’s expected.
Take on new tasks.
Put your hand up for assignments.
Get a mentor or a coach if necessary.

At the same time, if you are unable to meet those expectations, you also need to be transparent about it.
Nothing good comes from hiding mistakes and issues. Ever.

What this means is
– if you’re struggling with a task
– if you’re having challenges with the team or the client
– if you’re having trouble outside of work which is affecting your performance…

Talk to someone, as early as you can.
This allows those who are supposed to be your support structure time to find a way to help you.

Not following the above rules will result in unhappiness.
And that’s not a good start for a newbie 😕
